What is a tequila reposado?

Reposado means "rested" in Spanish. It is tequila that spends at least two months, and usually less than a year, resting in oak containers. That time turns the spirit light gold and adds vanilla, caramel and gentle spice, while the cooked agave stays in front. Many producers use American oak, often ex-bourbon barrels. Bottles labeled reposado are certified by the Tequila Regulatory Council, so the word on the label means something.
