Highland agave, American oak and a hand-cast ceramic bottle. Shop the luxury tequila made to sip slow.
Luxury tequila starts in the field. TROPA is made from 100% Blue Weber agave, the only one of the agave varieties allowed to produce tequila anywhere in the world, grown in the highlands of Jalisco, Mexico. The plants take six years or more to mature before harvest. Altitude and cooler nights give highland agave a sweet, floral character, while agave grown in the valley tends to taste earthier and spicier. That's terroir, and it's the first thing you taste in the glass. Our Reposado is produced at NOM 1412 with a functional mushroom blend used during distillation, then rested in American oak barrels. The meaning of reposado is "rested," and that time in oak rounds out the agave with notes of vanilla and hazelnut. Every bottle is hand-cast ceramic, finished with the same care as the tequila inside.
Search for luxury tequila brands and you'll find a long list of expensive tequila. Price alone won't help you pick. A better way to find a great premium tequila is understanding the tequila production behind it. Only 51% agave is required for a spirit to be called tequila, so any tequila considered luxury should say 100% agave on the label. Then look at the style. Blanco tequila is unaged, bright and citrus-forward. Reposado rests 2 to 12 months in a barrel. Añejo spends 1 to 3 years maturing, and extra añejo goes past three years, picking up rich, dark flavors from long maturation. More time in oak makes a smooth, more mature drink, but the agave should still come through. That balance is what to expect from quality aged tequila, and it's where TROPA's two expressions sit.
TROPA Reposado ships with one of four cap colors, Scarlet, Skye, Moss or Midas, assigned at random. It makes a luxury tequila gift that works any time of year, and a bottle people keep on the shelf long after it's empty. Follow the agave's journey from field to ceramic in The TROPA Process below, or explore the collection and discover the one that finds you.
Every bottle begins in Jalisco’s volcanic soil, where agave hearts are slow-roasted, crushed, and twice-distilled before resting in American oak.
