No. Tequila is made from blue Weber agave, which looks like a cactus but is a different plant. Agave is a succulent in the asparagus family, with long, spiked leaves growing from a dense central heart called the piña. That heart is the only part used. It is harvested by hand, cooked to turn its starches into sugar, crushed for juice, fermented and distilled at least twice.
