How is tequila different from alcohol?

Tequila is a type of alcohol, not something separate from it. "Alcohol" is the broad term for drinks containing ethanol, including beer, wine and spirits. Tequila is a distilled spirit with strict rules: it must be made from blue Weber agave, produced in designated Mexican states (mainly Jalisco), and made at a distillery holding a NOM number.
